Hello, Wedding Party!
Happy Thanksgiving!! Today Glen & Yvette are talking about things they didn’t know they would appreciate in each other, but are now thankful for in marriage!
Things Glen is thankful for:
- Her assertiveness in helping him achieve his dreams
She used to take him on hiking dates and once they would get to the top, she would ask what he wanted to do so that he would have to discuss it and think about his future.
- She always considers the community
Because she values the community around them, it creates balance from his push for their immediate family. It has helped him to realize that he needs his friends and needs to make time for them.
- She takes lots of pictures
When she initially started taking photos of every event, he, along with anyone else in that moment, would grumble. But over the years, he sees the documented memories and appreciates that she took the time to capture it all.
Things Yvette is grateful for:
- He still leaves his laundry on the floor, which allows her to do the same
When they first got married, Yvette would come home from work and there would be a trail of clothes from the front door to the couch that Glen left. Now twelve years in, Yvette feels comfortable doing the same and not feeling judged for “being herself.”
- His likemindedness to her father
At first, Yvette wasn’t sure how much she would love this quality, but now appreciates the way they both think. She feels it looks different on Glen and she loves it on him!
- His rapping and musical gift
It’s not that she didn’t believe in him or think he was talented, but she initially didn’t think it would go far enough to become a full time career. But as he has grown, she appreciates that music is a form of therapy for him where he can fully express himself.
- Video!!
She loves getting to hear the voices and see the interactions of their life together. Sometimes because she’s always the one taking the pictures, she feels like no one is capturing her, but video has allowed her to watch herself and her family.
Thinking of the viral TikTok challenge: “Our Icks,” Glen has reflected that those things that may urk you about your partner and other people in your life at first are the things you’ll eventually miss when life changes. It’s those little things that you come to appreciate over time. Practicing being thankful in marriage is just one of the ways we can love our spouses and loved ones well!
Enjoy your Thanksgiving!!
